An implant-supported denture (often called an overdenture or a snap-on denture) is a removable denture that locks securely onto two or more dental implants. Rather than relying on suction and adhesive to stay in place, it clips firmly onto attachments on the implants — so it doesn't move while you eat or talk.
Who benefits most
Patients who already wear a traditional denture and are frustrated with how it moves, slips, or causes sore spots are typically the happiest with the switch. It's also a good choice for patients who want a meaningful upgrade from a regular denture without the cost of a fully fixed full-arch reconstruction.
Snap-on vs. fixed: how to decide
- Snap-on (implant-supported): Removable for cleaning. Fewer implants. Lower cost. Still requires some palate coverage on the upper.
- Fixed (All-on-4 / All-on-X): Never removed by you. Feels closest to natural teeth. Full bite force. Higher investment.

Implant-Supported Dentures FAQ
Implant-supported dentures snap on and off — you remove them daily for cleaning. All-on-4 / All-on-X teeth are fixed in place and only your dentist removes them. Snap-on dentures usually cost less and require fewer implants.
Most patients do well with two to four implants per arch. The exact number depends on your bone, your bite, and the type of attachment system you choose.
